The Historic Center
Into the Center. Foot trafic only.
Lots of interesting things to see and do.
Plaza Fonseca early morning.
Much busier later in the day.
Good bar for breakfast crossant and cappachino.
They have clams!
The Cathederal. End of the trail for the pilgrims who made the long holy pilgrimage from France and southern Spain.
The Camino de Santiago route from western France, as shown on the back of a t-shirt.
The vast Praza do Obradorio from the steps of the cathederal. The gathering spot for the pilgrims at the end of their trek. Then into the cathederal for Mass.
High mass for the pilgrims daily at 12:00 and 17:30. Large attendence.
Afternoon sun feels great, especially for the tired pilgrims.
Another saint!
After the noon Mass, confusion reigns outside the cathederal.
Here comes the Roman army!!
We watch the army pass from the safety of our wine table.
Hey, can the army smoke in public??
Important to collect some t-shirts and gifts.
It's time for lunch. Here is a look at some of many possible restaurant choices...
Seafood.
More, with octopus specials.
All of the above are great for lunch or dinner. But, for a really exquisite dinner, try the catacomb restaurant of the Parador.
We always enjoy walking around interesting historic places early in the morning before the large crowds of tourists arrive.
Shops and cafes are just opening for deliveries of food and supplies.
Time to get clean for the coming day.
Really clean, with a smile.
On this walk we wander over to the eastern side of the historic center. Slightly hilly.
The Praza de San Miguel dos Argos. The San Miguel Hotel looks like a neat venue for our next visit.
It's still cool on this morning walk. Time for something warm like a smiley cappachino in the patio of the neat Costa Vella Hotel.
Garden and breakfast on the patio of the Costa Vella Hotel.
On to the Praza da Inmaculada. The cathederal towers on the left. The massive Monasterio de San Martin Pinario on the right.
On to Monasterio de San Martin Pinario
